Sphinx Scholarship Winners Second Year in a Row

Updated: Apr 28, 2020

Kamilah Brown and Casey Macklin have once again been awarded prestigious scholarships to study viola and violin as a part of the Sphinx Performance Academy.

The Sphinx Performance Academy (SPA) is a full-scholarship chamber music and solo performance program designed for Black and Latino violin, viola, and cello players, ages 11-17. The SPA curriculum includes an intensive schedule of private lessons and chamber music in addition to master classes, recitals, career enrichment sessions, and mentorship tailored for each student.

SPA is a program of the The Sphinx Organization, the Detroit-based national organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts. Led by Afa S. Dworkin, its President and Artistic Director, Sphinx programs reach over 100,000 students, as well as live and broadcast audiences of over two million annually.

The Sphinx program selects only a handful of talented musicians across the nation to study under a prestigious faculty of professional and accomplished musicians. Casey and Kamilah will attend the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA this July. Congratulations to them both!
