Courtney LaShae Francois, a cellist and a 2020 cum laude graduate of Jackson Academy, has been a member of the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra for 11 consecutive years. Courtney’s musical endeavors are numerous and include participation for three years in the Belhaven University Orchestra, the Allstate Orchestra, the Farish Street Baptist Church Orchestra, and six active years in the Jackson Academy Band playing cello, the upright electric bass, and bass drum. Courtney demonstrated her artistic skills in the Jackson Academy Theatre Program and Show Choir Band for numerous competitions. She is also a pianist and has earned multiple music theory and composition awards.
Academically, Courtney has earned recognition, awards, and membership in numerous honor societies. Civically, she is a member of the Jackson, MS Mayor’s Youth Council, Girls of Colors – a mentorship organization for young women, and a twelve-year-member of Morning Star Girl Scouts Troop 5422.
Courtney is the daughter of Carol Cannon, a longtime MYSO leader and volunteer. Courtney is truly grateful for the many individuals that nurtured her development as a cellist. She plans to pursue a degree in cello performance and ultimately teach music theory on a collegiate level. Congratulations, Courtney!
