Darren Smith has been a member of the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra for three seasons and has found the experience amazing. He is a senior at Natchez High School in Natchez, MS with a 3.9 GPA and among the top 3 students of his class. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and Natchez High School Track and Soccer teams.
Darren has played the violin for 7 years and has traveled to Carnegie Hall, Sydney, Australia twice, and Milan, Italy. Darren describes playing the violin as "an outstanding experience" because he enjoys classical music and meeting new people. He also enjoys helping people and giving back to the community and was crucial in helping to set up the stage and equipment for MYSO rehearsals and concerts.
My experience with MYSO has been amazing. My fellow peers and the conductors have made the experience one of a kind.
Darren is a future freshman at Jackson State University with a major in Biology and a minor in pre-medicine. His future goal is to be part of the Unites States Air Force and become a doctor. Congratulations, Darren!
